Non-Traditional Student Program

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (KTAP), Medicaid, Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), and Kentucky Children’s Health Insurance Program (KCHIP):

• SNAP helps individuals and families stretch their food budget and buy healthy foods.
• KTAP provides cash assistance to families with children to help pay for basic needs such as rent, utilities, transportation costs, car repairs, and other household expenses.
• Medicaid helps cover costs for needed medical care including preventive health care.
• Child Care Assistance aids eligible working families that meet income limits with the cost of childcare.
• KCHIP provides free or low-cost health insurance for children younger than 19 without insurance.

• To apply for any these benefits online, create an account through the self-service portal listed above or submit a paper application in person to the Department for Community Based Services Office.

Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC):

• WIC assists women that are pregnant, recently had a baby, are breastfeeding, or have a child younger than 5 years old by providing the following services: Education and services, breastfeeding promotion and education, a monthly food prescription of nutritious foods, and access to maternal, prenatal and pediatric health-care services.

HUD Section 8 and Public Housing:

• HUD provides rental assistance to individuals or families renting apartments from Section 8 approved facilities (e.g. Ecovillage).
  • To apply, fill out an application and take or email it to the Richmond office. If submitting an application before moving to Ecovillage or an apartment off-campus that is Section 8 approved, be sure to update your address when you move – they will contact you by mail only.

• Ecovillage Only: Prius*

*The College has provided the Ecovillage with a Toyota Prius that residents may use. A hybrid car, the Prius combines a gas engine and an emissions-free electric motor. It also has a low-emissions rating and does not have to be recharged. The Ecovillage is within walking distance of campus, so the Prius is available for off-campus needs such as grocery shopping. There is a mileage fee if only one person uses the car, but no fee is charged if two or more people ride in the car.
